Yields: 4 servings
Get ready to sink your teeth into a meaty masterpiece with this Texas Toast “Maid Rite”!
Think of it as a sloppy joe with a flavor boost—this 30-minute comfort meal is sure to satisfy all your savory cravings. The combination of ground beef, onions, and a hint of Worcestershire sauce will have you hooked from the first bite!

First, preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). While that’s heating up, heat a large skillet over medium-high and add in that delicious ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until the meat is browned in spots and no longer pink, and the onion is softened, about 8 minutes. Add in some minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, soy sauce, yellow mustard, and black pepper. Stir this mixture into the skillet and cook until the sauce has reduced slightly, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Now it’s time to prep those Texas Toast slices. Arrange them in an even layer on a large rimmed baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven until crisp and lightly browned on the bottoms, but still soft in the center, 8 to 9 minutes.
Use the round side of a large spoon to press into the center of each toast to create a well, leaving about a 1/4-inch border around the edge of each bread. Spoon about a heaping 1/4 cup of that delicious meat mixture into each well. Sprinkle with shredded triple Cheddar blend cheese (about 1/4 cup per toast).

Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake until the cheese is just melted and the toasts are crisp, about 5 minutes. Serve immediately with some crunchy bread and butter pickle chips on the side.
And don’t worry about the bits of cheese that fall off the meat and onto the baking sheet – it makes delicious crispy cheese bits!
