Homestyle Classic Meatloaf With Ketchup Glaze

Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 1 hour
Yields: 4 servings

Get ready to sink your teeth into the ultimate comfort food – Heinz Classic Meatloaf!

This mouthwatering masterpiece is sure to bring back memories of mom’s home cooking and family time around the dinner table. And the best part? It’s ridiculously easy to make!

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). While that’s heating up, lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan – you don’t want your meatloaf sticking around!

In a large skillet, heat up 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Throw in ½ cup of finely chopped onion, ½ cup of finely chopped celery, and ¼ cup of finely chopped green pepper. Cook until they’re soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.

Now, stir in 1 cup of Heinz tomato ketchup to create a rich, tangy sauce. Remove from heat and set aside – you’ll be using it again soon!

In a large bowl, combine 1 ½ pounds of lean ground beef, 1 cup of soft, fresh bread crumbs, 1 large egg (slightly beaten), ½ teaspoon of salt, and ¼ teaspoon of pepper. Mix gently until just combined – don’t overmix!

Add ½ of the ketchup sauce to the meat mixture and mix until just combined. Pat the mixture into the prepared loaf pan.

Pop that baby into the oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until an instant-read thermometer reads 160 degrees F (70 degrees C). Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.

While the meatloaf is resting, reheat the remaining ketchup sauce over medium heat. Slice the meatloaf and serve with the warm sauce spooned over the top.

Want to take it to the next level? Try one of these twists:

Twist 1: Top with 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella or Cheddar cheese for a creamy, cheesy treat.

Twist 2: Serve sliced warm meatloaf on toasted Kaiser rolls with chili sauce for a satisfying sandwich.

Twist 3: Substitute whole wheat bread crumbs or crushed bran flakes for the regular breadcrumbs for an extra fiber boost.

Twist 4: Use Heinz Chili Sauce instead of ketchup and stir in 1 tablespoon of chili powder for a spicy kick.

Twist 5: Substitute Heinz Hot & Spicy Ketchup for 1/2 of the regular ketchup for an extra kick.

Twist 6: Use Heinz Western Grill BBQ Sauce or other barbecue sauce for a smoky, tangy flavor.
