Get ready to indulge in the most epic breakfast or brunch extravaganza of your life!

Today, we’re diving into the world of French-inspired dishes, and trust me, you won’t want to miss this!. No more boring, bland breakfasts!

Imagine a rich, creamy sauce, perfectly toasted sourdough English muffins, and a delightful combination of ham and Swiss cheese – all in one dish!

That’s right, folks! We’re talking about a Croque Monsieur Casserole that’s sure to become a staple in your household.

First, preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking dish, because we don’t want any sticking going on!

Melt 6 tablespoons of butter – yes, you read that right, 6! – and place your English muffin cubes in a large bowl. Top them with the melted butter and a sprinkle of Dijon mustard. Toss until they’re well coated, then spread them out in an even layer on a baking sheet.

Pop that baking sheet into the oven and bake until the English muffins are lightly browned and toasted, about 12 to 14 minutes.

While the English muffins are doing their thing, whisk together some eggs, half-and-half, salt, and pepper in a bowl until they’re well combined. Set them aside for now.

Place half of the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish. Fold half of the ham slices and tear them into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Disperse the ham between the bread cubes, then top evenly with 2 cups of cheese.

Top with the remaining bread and ham, and another cup of cheese. Pour the egg mixture over the casserole and press lightly to submerge most of the bread.

Let the casserole stand at room temperature for 30 minutes, then bake until the egg mixture is absorbed, about 45 to 50 minutes. Cover with foil during the last 20 minutes of baking time if it’s browning too quickly.

While the casserole is baking, melt the remaining butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in some flour and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute.

Whisk in some milk until smooth, then bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 3 minutes.

Add in some salt, pepper, and nutmeg, and stir. Cook for about 8 minutes on low, stirring occasionally, then remove from heat.

Remove the casserole from the oven and turn on the broiler. Pour the cream sauce over the casserole and top with the remaining shredded cheese and some Parmesan.

Place the casserole back in the oven and broil until bubbly and lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes, then sprinkle with some chives and serve.

And that’s it! A delicious, creamy, cheesy Croque Monsieur Casserole that’s sure to impress your family and friends.
